In case you’ve got a domain name and a hosting package for it, you will be able to create mailboxes for personal or business purposes and to set them up with email software apps such as Thunderbird, Outlook or Apple Mail. In the meantime, you’ll be able to select one of the two popular email protocols – IMAP or POP3. The first protocol will permit you to view all email messages, but they will stay on the mail server, whereas with the second one, all messages will be downloaded to the device where the mailbox is created, unless you explicitly choose a copy to be left on the server. In this way, you can choose if you’d like all your e-correspondence to be kept on a single device, or if you’d rather be able to access the emails from different places. The latter option is very handy for companies where different employees working on different machines need to gain access to a particular email account.
